St. Matthew School has small class sizes, a family-like, culturally diverse community, top test scores, French, Spanish, art, music, & theater. Visit us!
We are proud of our students’ success. Here are just a few reasons to choose St. Matthew School:
*Small class sizes (average class is 17 students)
*Warm, family-like, culturally diverse community
*Top test scores: Graduates from St. Matthew are well-prepared for high school as shown in our 8th grade test scores over the past five years. The average 8th grade composite score was 12+ grade equivalent.
*15 out of 17 of our 2014 8th grade graduates are now attending the Catholic high school of their choice in the fall. Two chose to attend public school and did not apply to a Catholic high school.
*We have a thriving after-school chess club with a top instructor; One of our third graders just won first prize in the Novice category at the all-Catholic Schools chess tournament
*We have a weekly French class after-school with a native speaker and owner of Polly-Glot Tots
*Excellence in the Arts:
Four St. Matthew students received awards at the Archbishop Murphy High School Art Show and their art was on display at the Seattle Art Museum in fall 2014.
*Lots of fun parent events to form friendships, such as the annual auction party (with a 1920s theme this year!), wine tasting, bingo and chili night, moms night out and dads on the loose
*Sports from a young age: Soccer and cross-country teams for both boys and girls start in Kindergarten! Speaking of sports: St. Matthew 7th grade girls basketball team was the 2014 Christian Youth Organization (CYO) Champion, 8th grade girls basketball team was the 2014 CYO Second Place Champion, and the 7th grade girls volleyball team was the 2014 CYO Champion.
*Many opportunities for children from younger grades to interact with children in older grades, such as: “Family” lunches, Sixth grade partnerships with Kindergarteners, and Junior Olympics
*Merrill Gardens Retirement Home service learning outreach partnership includes many classes visiting, participating in Masses, sharing cards, and picnic invites to the school.
*85% of our middle school students received Alpha or Beta honors (Alpha is 3.6-4.0 GPA in two consecutive quarters in the 6 major academic subject areas (religion, reading, writing, math, science, and social studies). Beta is 3.0-3.59 GPA in two consecutive quarters in the same 6 subjects.
*Our middle school math students competed in a Math competition at Bishop Blanchet High School this year. Four of our students placed in the top 50 for their age group. This ranking is based on all Catholic schools who competed nationwide.
*18 middle school students competed on the St. Matthew’s speech in two local tournaments. Two students won first place in their categories.
